I havn't gotten mine yet. Filed on Sept 11th at VSC. Check seems to have cleared though -according to the Attorney. However I guess the delay in my case is the exception rather than the rule.

My current reporting structure with my employer is:
Client -> Prime Vendor -> Consultant X -> My employer
Another consultant is ready to transfer my visa and the reporting structure there is
Client -> Prime Vendor -> My employer
A prime vendor (not the same client) is also ready to transfer my visa
Client -> My employer
I am planning to transfer it to either (or both) of the above two companies. Will there be a problem in those two companies filing for a tranfer at (approx) the same time?
Is there a way I can ask an attorney directly (I am willing to pay for that service)

"Is it usual for big employers to already have H1 visas to sponser you on".. All I know is that employers cannot have blank visas for hiring whom they want. They have to file a new application for a specific employee, so they have to start from scratch.
If your F1 covers you for 2.5 years, then there's some hope that immigration laws will change during this time. Because right now it's a nightmare. If nothing changes in the laws and cap number stays at ~65,000, then you will have to win a lottery to get an H1. We'll see on April 1, but most likely there is also a lottery for Master's degree holders.

Dont waste time. Fill the FOIA form whatever you can only for "140 approval notice" (one page). They will use those info and send you the approval letter. It may take 1-3 months. At least you can give a shot. If you get it then resubmit FOIA with the A#. FYI- you can not fill two request same time. Once one is completed then you can send second one.

I had applied for my wife through paper and they did not ask for her fingerprints. I had applied for mine through efiling and they did ask for fingerprints. I was not in town on the day that they had asked me to be at the service center. So I requested a later date. Lo and behold one fine day I got my EAD approved without any fingerprints. Don't ask my how it was approved but that is the case.

The battle for comprehensive immigration reform is going to be tough as Senate Republicans play politics with the critical immigration issue. The Senate passed its $44.3 billion fiscal 2010 Homeland Security appropriations measure 84-6 last week after three days of debate that differentiated the bill from its House companion on a handful of border security and immigration policies. Unfortunately Senate Republicans used the opportunity to add significant new provisions to the less controversial �extender provisions� including an extension to the Special Immigrant Nonminister Religious Worker Program and the Conrad Waiver Program for Physicians Serving in Underserved Areas. The Senate also included a provision promoted by AILA member Brent Renison to allow the foreign-born widows, children and parents of citizens who have died to retain their legal status to seek citizenship for two years after the death. it is fine to have both I-485s filed and pending - generally speaking, if one gets approved, USCIS should deny the other (as a LPR you will no longer be eligible to adjust your status to lpr).

Would this apply even if one did not file I485 or is I485 required to be filed for H1B extention? Also what if, say, company A files bankrupcy or H1B holder from the company is laid off after I140 is approved AND I485 not applied.

I am in the same situation and I filed for AOS using approved 140 from Company A. The only risk is, if we get an approval within 180 days then technically we will have to go and work for Company A for minimum 90 days, which in my case is not possible. My lawyer said that he highly doubts that any action will be taken in 180 days (my PD is June 05) and once 180 days are over, you can use the luxury of AC21 and could be working for any employer at that time.
I say go ahead and file for 485 and at the same time tell your employer to initiate LC process. They can use LC for some other candidate if you end up not using it.
